¿Podemos continuar aumentando el rendimiento promedio del cultivo de arroz en los próximos 20 años o el mismo ya alcanzó el tope y se mantendrá por debajo de
las 9 ton arroz/ha? A efectos de responder esta interrogante se plantea este trabajo cuyo objetivo es determinar el potencial de rendimiento (Rp), el rendimiento actual georeferenciado (Ra) y la brecha de rendimiento explotable existente (Br=Rp*80%-Ra) a escala local y regional en Uy con una nueva metodología utilizando modelos ecofisiológicos del cultivo de Arroz y grandes bases de datos. Este trabajo fue realizado en colaboración con el equipo del Global Yield Gap Atlas (GYGA) y la Universidad de Nebraska, Lincoln (UNL). El arroz irrigado Uruguayo fue el primero de Latinoamérica en ser incluido en el Atlas mundial y los resultad os de este estudio fueron también publicados en la página web: www.yieldgap.org. |

The emergence of new technologies, the conservation of biodiversity and genetic resources, the environmental consequences of current agriculture practices, the impacts of climate change, the gaps in 79 adoption of key technologies and the expansion of plant pest and diseases are all examples of current challenges of the food and agriculture system that requires a scientific, policy and future-oriented, regional approach. The Cooperative Program for the Development of Agricultural Technology in the Southern Cone (PROCISUR), integrated by the National Agricultural Research Institutions (NARIs) of the Southern Cone, conducted a foresight exercise to build capabilities on this discipline and to raise awareness about the usefulness of foresight approaches to policy makers. |
